The storylines for Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers speak for themselves. It's the league's best offense versus. the league's best defense (as it should be), it's the young superstar quarterback versus the 39-year old legend who could be playing in his last game. The 13-year age difference between starting quarterbacks in this game (Manning 39, Newton 26) is the largest age game between two Super Bowl starting quarterbacks in NFL history. Peyton Manning logged 9 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in an injury-plagued season, making him, statistically, the worst quarterback ever to play in a Super Bowl. In the interest of statistical firsts heading into the big game, Cam Newton is the first quarterback in NFL history with at least 30 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in a single season.
Manning has 539 career passing TDs (most all-time) |
At 26, Cam Newton is proving that he could be an elite quarterback in this league for a long, long time, but Peyton Manning already has. If this is indeed Manning's last game, he will go out as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Peyton Manning holds the records for passing touchdowns in a single season (55) and total passing touchdowns (539).
Newton: 1st QB with 30+ pass/10+ rush TDs in a season |
Peyton Manning is one of the greatest players ever to play in the NFL, and if this is his last game, his absence will be felt in a massive way. Cam Newton is young and this is his first Super Bowl. He will be a force in this league for many years and will undoubtedly return to the Super Bowl in his career.
Just for fun, here are two different Super Bowl predictions: One from EA Sport Madden 16, and one from the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon... and puppies! Which prediction do you believe? Enjoy the game everyone!
